Why It Stinks to Be a Jack of All Trades Online

(At Least At First)

One of the toughest things Internet marketers (or any other business owner for that matter) have to decide on is what type of business they want to have.  There are tons of different ways to make money online.  Some are pretty much quick-cash, hustling type methods while others are slower, but with a long-term focus.  There's no right or wrong answer to this question, it's all about what YOU want.

However, the trap you don't want to fall into is trying to be a jack of all trades.  This is especially true when starting out.

This could apply both to the business model you use and the niche that you focus on.  If you want to develop content sites, get REALLY good at cranking them out and driving traffic to them.  If you want to sell ebooks, get really good at either writing in a particular niche, managing the outsourced work of other writers in one or several niches, and then become an expert at promoting them and drawing in affiliates.

The point is that, at least in the beginning, it's probably a good idea to narrow your focus and get REALLY GOOD at a narrow scope of the Internet marketing space.  That means a particlar "method" of making money and in a specific "niche" or topic.

Andrew Carnegie probably said it best when he said:

"I've seldom or never known a great success made by a jack of all trades, the board member in twenty companies, the controller of none"

Narrowing down your focus will help you take on building your business with laser-like precision.  In addition, with so much information out there and new product launches going off all the time, getting clear on what you're focused on can help you weed through some of this stuff, which might just be "noise" in relation to what you're working on (even if it's a really killer product).  The same goes for emails and the email lists you're on...weeding out the "noise"...but that's another article all to itself.

Anyway, just a thought to consider and something that I had to learn the hard way.

To your online success,
